Aims
The student has to reach the following general aim:

The ability to analyse theoretically and empirically the role of the changing industrial environment (markets, technology, space) for the organisation and strategy of companies.

Extending this goal, moreover more detailed insight must be obtained in the role of:

Changing institutions for the industrial environment.

Markets and networks for organisations.

Innovations and technological dynamics within the knowledge economy.

External economies and spatial-economic dynamics at various levels of scale.

Contents
The content is aimed at both students more targeted on general and on business economics and includes theoretical knowledge and real life situations. The following subjects are discussed during the lectures, tutorials and exercises:

Theoretical perspectives on organisations, strategy and the environment.

Original and new institutional economy.

Structure-conduct-performance (SCP-model).

Networks.

Dynamics and innovations.

The information – and knowledge economy and the role of ICT.

External economies and location behaviour of organisations.

Dynamics in spatial-economic inequalities

Regional clusters; national innovation systems and globalisation

Extra
In the second year of IBEB a deepening of the content and particularly skills takes place in the courses ‘methods and techniques’ and the ‘research project’.
